Men, do you feel pressure to smile? I do. I can be serious and aloof. I sometimes seem… “Unhappy.”

In a recent Facebook discussion, I learned about the RBF – Resting Bitchy Face from an article I found (link at bottom).
Any men brave enough to throw their SERIOUS into the ring?
|
After I read the article, I ranted: “So what?? If someone is serious, why is this somehow something that deserves media attention and an acronym… next the DSM 6 will have an associated diagnosis and treatment regime. What about the men who have RBF’s… or RAF’s… Resting Ass Face. Articles like this reinforce bias against women. I was once asked by relatives why I was so unhappy and it created a lot of gossip about me being depressed. I wasn’t, I was just serious and shy at the time. Sometimes we need to be who we are…”
Have we taken the happiness thing too far and now we pressure each other to feel/look/act happy? Why the hell is happiness more valuable than the other six emotions (Angry, Sad, Fearful, Disgust, Contempt, Surprise)?
I’ve got an RAF… I can be serious, intense and aloof. What about you? Any men brave enough to throw their SERIOUS into the ring?
Here is the link to the article.
To my RBF’s and RAF’s out there… Keep it Real!
