You can own a lot of things, but you can’t buy more time.

Time is precious, too precious to waste by being in a hurry. You can accomplish a lot more if you slow down.

You can get it done. You know: the dream that you have been holding onto, your recovery, writing your book, improving your health and fitness.
You can begin that one thing that you always mean to get to when you find the right time.
Check your watch
Check your watch. The time is here: Just begin.
Thing is, no one else can do it for you. Got it? But why now? Because there is no other time to begin. Literally.
Yesterday is gone and tomorrow is too far away to change it. The only moment you can ever hold onto is right now. There is no tomorrow. If you are waiting for a better moment, you are putting life off to another time that may never come.
You have enough time to begin what is necessary.

How do you begin?
Do you jump into action? No. Never.
Begin first by listening to yourself. Listening is the first way to believe in yourself. Then do the one thing that only you can do: take one action.
You already know enough

People often enter counseling or coaching hoping that a new insight or a new lesson will change them. What we have found is that behavior is not changed by new ideas, behavior is changed by action.
You and I behave our way into new ideas. That is why ideas pop into your head when you are walking or doing chores.
Take an idea and act on it
Do something and then you will be changed.

Just begin
No one else can do it for you: that project, that idea, that dream. Thing is, not all of your ideas can begin today. You have to pick one. In this moment, you have enough energy for one thing.
You have ownership over this moment, you have enough energy for one thing.
No one can take your place and act for you.

This moment has three gifts for you:
- The gift of potential
- The gift of importance
- The gift of time
- Potential: Right now you have so many possibilities, so many choices that you could make. You are limited only by your creativity and imagination. Each moment offers you possibility.
- Importance: You can believe, you can know what is important. But only you can decide that it is important right now. And right now is the only time that you have.
- Time: You have enough time to begin. You will not finish everything in one moment, but you can take one step today.

Go ahead, procrastinate
When you begin one thing, you put off other projects. Some of these are better left for later. Or never. Some goals are better left unfulfilled because they cost too much and require too much sacrifice.
Get into the ring
Remember that you cannot do everything, but you can do one thing. When you take an action, only then are you in the ring.
When you own this moment, you begin to take your life back. You own it: not sadness, not anxiety, not drugs or alcohol, not cancer, not debt.

And when you own this moment, you begin to take your life back. You own it: not sadness, not anxiety, not drugs or alcohol, not cancer, not debt.
When you own this moment and do what only you can do, the past will begin to lose its grip on your mind. And that is when you begin to live the life that you are meant to live.

Such a wonderful post. I love the structure and layout, and your personal style. When it came to breaking free from my depression, it really was all about action. I used to sit and read for hours about self-development, but I never acted. As you say, learning without applying is useless. If anything, it makes you feel worse. I had let my depression spiral to the point of not wanting to get better, so taking action to self-help became impossible. My action was getting to the doctor, which was so hard. I needed the short boost that anti-depressants gave me. Interestingly, the very act of going to the doctor improved my mind set. Still, with a bit of desire reignited, I started to take ACTION some more, and here I am, anti-depressant free and developing every day! Thank you for reminding me about all this. Your post has helped put my growth into perspective.

gdholdaway,
Glad that the post resonated with you. It is real for me each and every day. Action is the thing that pulls me into a better frame of mind. I can be productive today, but tomorrow I have to again invest in action in order for my mood to follow along. Some days are much better, other days are not good. Glad it helps. You made my day.
