Tiny events add up: Recovery is one choice at a time
___
Tiny events.
Small, minor stories.
Events add up.
Decisions matter.
Do you want to make your days profound? I wrote about this in my journal the other day, “I try to make my day profound. I want it marked with excellence, exuberance and the etchings of importance. But what I live instead is mundane. Anything but superb.”
It is easy to miss the importance of every day choices.

Sorry, not trying to be a downer, but you and I search for meaning every day. Some search for it in important events, contributing to other’s happiness, improving our lives in small ways and reducing suffering. It is easy to miss the importance of every day choices.
Our decisions matter: Tiny fires, small conversations, daily decisions.
Expecting greatness every day can leave us disappointed, because life usually feels normal. But greatness is contained in the normal.
The every day is important because of what you and I bring to it. It is not the big event that makes a day, it is you and I that make the day to be what it can be.
I follow Zach Anner on You Tube and this is just one of his average days. He faces a lot of challenges. What you and I face may be family stress, personal pain, recovery, mental illness, looking for work, or just the assholes.
Whatever it is, living small is the key. Because, greatness comes in the:
- Tiny events of your life– living with integrity.
- Small, minor stories – becoming just 1% better.
- Events that add up – just listening can lighten someone else’s load.
- Decisions that matter – because you are making them.
No body will sing when you choose the apple instead of the ice cream. It is the tiny events that create the major themes in our lives.

We are told that a healthy body is the product of a healthy lifestyle. Your decisions each moment, and each day create your lifestyle. These decisions usually are not profound. No body will sing when you choose the apple instead of the ice cream. It is the tiny events that create the major themes in our lives.
Most change happens through small, daily investments:
Tiny events.
Small, minor stories.
Events add up.
Decisions matter.
Today, make the small things count.
Keep it Real
Your post is wonderfully inspiring and puts things in perspective, Sean. Loved the video of Zach and his sense of humor. What an amazing person! 🙂
